GERMAN CHAMPIONS IN 14 SPORTS

The biggest stars of German athletics, swimming and other sports gather in Berlin when the championship titles are at stake in “Die Finals”. Fringe sports such as archery, 3×3 basketball and speed canoe polo are also given a stage at “Die Finals.

The mega sporting event is a particular logistical challenge for APA, so that over 10 venues can be perfectly staged in parallel operation.

14 sports and 190 German championship titles – a superlative that is unparalleled and has been dubbed the “Mini Olympics”. With ARD and ZDF as broadcasting venues behind it, APA was allowed to develop TV-appropriate branding & signage for the event.

The project management was able to score especially with our project management software APA Pics – for a smooth workflow at all venues our system was always the transparent and efficient interface between customer and project managers.

MINI OLYMPIA IN GERMANY

Shortly before the start of the European soccer championships and parallel to the ice hockey world championships, an absolute annual highlight is on the agenda for around 3,700 German athletes. At the major event "The Finals," 140 German championship titles are awarded each year in 18 sports, setting a big exclamation mark in the direction of the Olympics. The sports highlight, rightly called the mini Olympics, is prominently broadcast by ARD and ZDF in more than 25 hours of live coverage, in order to provide a broad audience for marginal sports in particular. For APA, it was a huge logistical challenge to prepare the 10 different venues in North Rhine-Westphalia and Berlin for the Olympics in the shortest possible time with a gigantic fireworks display of large-scale signage and branding. But challenges are what make us grow.

APA INNOVATION

  • Logistical planning for a smooth process for 10 venues
  • New design of special structures made of aluminum and acrylic structures with customized textile covers
  • Development of new signage materials for the requirements of indoor sports
  • Simultaneous equipment of the most different sports, compressed in one weekend
