After the thrilling men’s Hamburg Open tournament in July, where the tension was literally in the air, it was now the women’s turn to put their skills to the test at the prestigious Rothenbaum club. For German tennis fans in particular, the tournament promised pure thrills, with ten talented German players battling it out for victory. This year, the WTA125 tournament is part of the WTA Challenger Series and not the WTA Tour. It got off to a furious start, especially for Hamburg’s local heroes Korpatsch, Lys and Akugue. They all triumphed in their first matches and progressed to the next round with ease. With impressive prize money totalling $115,000, the ECE Ladies tournament promised not only exciting matches, but also thrilling tennis at the highest level. In the final on Saturday, Hungarian player Anna Bondár prevailed on Centre Court against Dutch player and defending champion Arantxa Rus, winning the match by a surprisingly clear margin of 6:4 and 6:2. We at APA also had the pleasure of helping to organise the tournament in the Hanseatic city with the appropriate branding and an atmospheric setting for the spectators.
